Treatment Options

Please bear in mind that these treatments are expensive and may not be covered by your insurance. There are several treatment related issues you will need to ask your doctor before beginning a course of therapy. They include:

  • What services might I need?
    • This will depend on the cause of your family's infertility. If it is a sperm problem, you may perhaps need ICSI or sperm retrieval. If you have egg quality problems, you may need a donor egg, which might be either fresh or frozen. If you have uterine problems (i.e. fibroids), you may need a surgeon experienced at myomectomy (fibroid removal) or even need a surrogate.
  • What are the treatments that might help us conceive?
    • If you or your spouse are infertile, the most important focus will involve identifying a cause. This is very important because this will allow doctors to treat based on whatever the specific problem is. Infertility should never be blamed on anyone. It is an issue a couple faces together. If the problem involves the sperm (poor quality, low motility, low numbers), you may need a sperm donation. You might consider a friend or family member as a donor. However, you might also consider an anonymous donor through a sperm bank. However, you may have a few mature sperm that can be used to fertilize an egg. A urologist with experience with male fertility issues can counsel you on the different treatments available. Tinina Q. Cade Foundation staff can assist you in finding an urologist with this focus.

Fertility treatments for male and female factors associated with infertility can include: Sperm donation Sperm harvesting from the testicle Stimulating the female to produce several mature eggs in a monthly cycle In Vitro Fertilization (with or without ICSI for low sperm count or poor sperm quality) Egg donation (for anovulatory cycles or poor egg quality) Surrogacy Other therapies
